Abstract
This paper is study of a co-educational, Hindimedium,
government-run middle school in
Indore in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India.
This was a classroom ethnography conducted
with a class VIII classroom1
. I have taken a
critical pedagogic2
approach to interrogating
classroom processes and my discussion of
language classrooms in this paper is framed by
the assumption that education has a role to play
in furthering equality and inequality, and social
justice and injustice for learners and their
communities.
