Abstract
Memorization is often the primary skill exercised when learning algebraic identities. Small wonder that students tend to forget them well before their useby date! Here, the sum of cubes identity is unpacked using a series of pictures more powerful than symbols. It doesn’t stop there — the article then investigates other sets of numbers for which ‘the sum of the cubes is equal to the square of the sum’.
