Abstract

Access to multidisciplinary information is key to research in Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), and “there is growing recognition that the capacity to conduct research and to share the resulting knowledge is fundamental to all aspects of human development, from improving health care delivery to increasing food security, and from enhancing education to stronger evidence-based policymaking.” It is important that councils and agencies in India that fund HSS research, and the institutions that support HSS researchers be considerate not only of the structural constraints of SSH knowledge production in India but also be cognizant of the opportunities provided by developments in open access movement in India and across the world in augmenting other efforts in enhancing HSS research. The goal of the Symposium series is to identify issues in open access to humanities and social sciences research information in the Indian context.
